August 2023: Raise your voice against workplace toxicity
Dear Friend,
As the presidential campaign heats up, so does our work to ensure that leaders of both parties join our mission to eradicate workplace silencing mechanisms that cover up bad behavior. Ahead of the first Republican presidential debate in Wisconsin, we published an op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, calling on candidates of both parties to work with us to ban non-disclosure agreements for toxic workplace issues. Read our op-ed and call to action here.
The Protecting Older Americans Act: New co-sponsors!
In June, we worked alongside a bipartisan group of federal lawmakers and the AARP to introduce the Protecting Older Americans Act (S.1979/H.R.4120), which bans forced arbitration in cases of age discrimination. We want to thank our co-sponsors Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) in the House, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and new co-sponsors Alex Padilla and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in the Senate. Read more about our legislation here.
Looking ahead: The Texas Tribune Festival is almost here!
We're thrilled to share our session at next month’s Texas Tribune Festival with you! Don't miss out on our "Women and the Workplace" panel, an event that has already been hailed as an unmissable experience by none other than Texas Tribune CEO Sonal Shah. We will be speaking on September 23 at 9:00 A.M in Austin, TX to discuss how far women and workplace culture have come and how far we still have to go since the start of #metoo. We will also highlight our work at Lift Our Voices and our mission to make workplaces safe and equal for all.
Join us to gain valuable insights, be part of the discourse, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of workplace culture. Learn more about Texas Tribune Festival here.
Call to Action: Raise Your Voice!
As we successfully did four years ago, we are calling upon all presidential candidates to put an end to NDAs that cover up workplace toxicity. One-third of all American workers are bound by NDAs, which prevent them from discussing the bad behavior they endure or witness. This culture of silence perpetuates toxicity, while protecting predators and harming survivors.
Join us in urging candidates to prioritize transparency, accountability, and the well-being of workers across the nation. You can sign our petition here.
During her undergraduate years at James Madison University, Adrianne lobbied on Capitol Hill to raise awareness of the importance of basic science research. As a graduate student at the University of Illinois-Chicago, she was involved in the graduate student council and served as diversity and inclusion officer for her program’s student association. We are very excited to have her on our team!
