Gretchen Carlson joins The Electorette to reflect on what has—and hasn't—changed.
In this conversation, Gretchen discusses the lasting personal cost of speaking out, why she says she still doesn't fully own her voice, the creation of Lift Our Voices, the fight to end forced arbitration and NDAs in cases of workplace harassment, and what still needs to happen to protect workers.
Ten years ago I made the terrifying decision to sue Roger Ailes, who was then the Fox News chief executive and chairman, for sexual harassment. In the weeks that followed, more than 20 other women spoke up about his abuse. Just months before, Bill Cosby had been charged with sexual assault. Later, new sexual harassment claims against Bill O’Reilly became public, and women began speaking out against Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer and so many more.

Graham Platner’s withdrawal from the Senate race in Maine is sparking a debate about why more politicians are not held accountable for their actions. Co-Founders of Lift Our Voices Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky join The Weekend to discuss.
Ten years after Gretchen Carlson's pivotal lawsuit, the #MeToo movement's evolution is under scrutiny. Recent rape allegations against Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, prompting his withdrawal, and similar claims against Congressman Eric Swalwell, underscore the movement's continued relevance. Carlson views these incidents optimistically, seeing a cultural shift where survivors are better prepared to come forward and the public is more receptive. Yet, a significant challenge persists: political leaders' inconsistent responses to allegations, especially when involving their own party. Despite uneven accountability for some powerful men, Carlson asserts that we've seen "immense change" over the last decade.

Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky, co-founders of the anti-harassment advocacy group Lift Our Voices, told Newsweek via email that responses to sexual misconduct allegations should not vary based on politics or party affiliation. They said they were disappointed that allegations previously reported against Platner did not prompt more forceful calls from Democratic leaders for him to leave the race.

Watch: A conversation on how emerging technology is shaping the future of worker rights and helping workers better understand their employment contracts. Most workers sign employment contracts without realizing what they are agreeing to. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and forced arbitration clauses are often buried in the fine print and quietly take away a worker’s right to speak out about harassment, discrimination or retaliation. Lift Our Voices is working to change that.
